The traditional method of teaching Ashtanga yoga is called 'Mysore style'. These Mysore classes are an early morning self-practice where the ashtanga yoga student practices the primary series while the teacher offers adjustments and progesses the student when appropriate. This way the student safely builds up to the full primary series. Later the student can progress on to the more advanced series. This process takes years of practice, requiring persistence and patience.

Ashtanga Yoga Mysore
This class is designed for beginners, as well as those with some experience who wish to properly ground themselves in the basics of an ashtanga.
In this class you will:
- learn how to use the breath, bhandas (core muscles and energetic engagement to increase power) and Vinyasas (pose sequences) to develop a dynamic yoga practice
- develop flexibility, strength and stamina
- learn sun salutations A & B, standing poses, finishing poses and half of the primary series to Navasana
- quieten the mind through focus
- learn how to modify poses to suit your body and level
- learn how to begin a self practice
This class will allow you to benefit more fully from the Ashtanga led classes and the other vinyasa/flow classes. Ashtanga students who know the proper pacing and sequencing of the poses and wish to do a Mysore style practice are welcome- you will receive adjustments and options as needed.
