Yin & Restorative Yoga Wollongong
Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue including the ligaments, bones and joints of the body that may not be stretched very much in the more active styles of yoga. Because the Yin Yoga postures are held for longer, the passive nature of the asanas gives time for a deeper awareness, release of tightness while softening the body.
Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a balancing complement to the more dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasise heating the body by working the muscles. Muscles are intended to be relaxed in these classes with the stretches being held for longer periods of time. The time spent in these postures is similar to time spent in meditation with a focus on mindfulness and acceptance of the body as it is. Yin Yoga especially targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Yin yoga classes slow you down and help become more resilient to stress. By slowing down the breathing and holding the postures longer yin primes you for a more meditative state of mind.
