Omega 3 Fish oil & Arthritis
Fish oil has been shown to be a cost effective treatment for arthritis
Research Adelaide suggests fish oil could save the Australian national health system over a hundred million dollars in arthritis treatments.
Professor Les Cleland from the Royal Adelaide Hospital has spent over 20 years researching the effect of omega-3 fish oil on arthritis sufferers.
His results show large doses of fish oil reduce the risk of arthritis.
Professor Cleland says fish oil is a cheaper option than pharmaceutical drugs and could also serve as an effective preventative option.
"Potentially, I mean could be looking at savings of greater than a hundred million just in terms of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs."
