Structural Integration Sessions

Initial appointment

This is where you meet the therapist and discuss your needs. The therapist can outline what the work can do for you and if it is suitable to undertake the series.
Discuss the time frame and probable spacing for appointments. This can be the first session of your 12 or 3 series, or can be a single session as you ‘try on’ the work to see if it is for you. ! Each session is 90 minutes !

Preparing for your sessions !

  • Sessions begin with your health history ( as you would for a massage session). Your concerns and issues are discussed.
  • Assessment and treatments are done in your underwear or bathers.
  • Observations are made in both standing and movement of your posture and movement abilities.
  • Treatments are conducted on both a massage table, seated bench and sometimes in standing. The practitioner uses fingers, hands or arms to contact certain tissues, then asks you to move in specific ways, opening or re-positioning the tissue.

For many clients, the work has a deeply calming affect, with a sense of lightness in movement and relaxation infusing the body. Sometimes the sensations can feel like a strong yoga stretch. Your practitioner, with your feedback, will find the right level and depth that will allow maximum value for each session consisted with your comfort.

The 12 session series - A framework encompassing an organised series of sessions to address postural and strain patterns that run throughout the body. Typically people undertake this series over a period of between3 to 9 months.

Sessions 1-4 Superficial layers
These first sessions address patterns in the superficial fascial layers of the body. Easing the shoulders from the trunk, easing the breath and balancing the feet. Each of the first 4 sessions works on a different plane of the body, the front, back and sides. Revealing deeper underlying patterns, opening the body for the deeper core sessions.
Sessions 5-8 The Core
Exploring areas revealed through the first 4 sessions, from patterns in the feet, to pelvic balance, breath and spinal bends and rotations. Working through these muscular and fascial areas, closer to the spine, neck, jaw,pelvis, and deeper feet structures to create balance and support from within. !
Sessions 9-12 Integration
Bringing the first 8 sessions together, exploring new alignment and coordination experiences. Giving attention to unresolved or particular issues, specific work for the arms, these sessions cover the whole body. This new alignment become part of you and will not require conscious control. Dependence on ongoing regular maintenance sessions are not required. !

Taking a 3 session series - It is possible to explore structural bodywork in a smaller series that takes its main elements from the start of the 12 series. You can take these 3 as a standalone series, and feel what it does for you. From here you can turn it into the longer series or not.

As clients feel freer in their bodies, they will sometimes return for a tune up, whilst others will go on to other maintenance like yoga, Pilates, massage etc.

Structural Integration sessions are classified as Remedial Massage with Health funds. Michael is registerred with all health Funds. HICAPS is avialble.
