ThePrograms

Physiotherapists have spent years developing  exercise programs for people just like you. They have drawn upon the latest research findings in health science and their own clinical experience to create an entire system of therapeutic and conditioning exercises.

Many physiotherapists, chiropractors and other health professionals are now prescribing Ball exercises for their own clients. A good understanding of SmartBall exercise regimes is invaluable in managing all sorts of clientele from acute injuries to chronic problems, sports injuries to occupational injuries, young and old alike. This is possible because of the remarkable versatility inherent to the SmartBall system.

Too much work and not enough exercise! Does this sound like you?

Long hours sitting in the same position slouched at a desk or in front of a computer leads to little aches and pains, stiffness and postural discomfort. Over many months and years the results can be chronic back pain and muscular weakness from lack of activity.

The perfect remedy for this is to use a Ball at work. A Ball is an ideal ergonomic office seat as it helps you to maintain a good sitting posture and it keeps your muscles working while you sit. We call it Active Sitting and it is easier and more comfortable than you think!

After only a few minutes of sitting on a ball the body starts to adapt to its new mobile base. Using a Ball as a seat engages the body's natural stabiliser mechanisms which are normally shut down while using an office chair.

The muscles around the spine and abdomen which are not utilised in a normal chair are activated to maintain your balance on the ball. Although it requires very little effort, this muscle activity lasts the whole time you use the ball so you are in fact training the trunk muscles to be stronger and fitter while you sit.

You will also be pleased to know that the muscles engaged by sitting on a Ball are the same muscles proven to prevent back pain. So if you want to alleviate the discomfort of a sore back or prevent one starting you should get on the ball right away.

But why stop there! A Ball is not just for sitting on, it is an incredibly effective exercise tool. The Ball physiotherapists have devised a fantastic program called Sit and Stretch which is customised for office workers. Please contact the Wellness Centre for further details.

SitandStretch

Over two sessions of one hour duration, we can work with small groups of 6 - 10 to demonstrate how to use the ball correctly as a seat and how to perform some basic Ball stretches for the spine and associated areas. These exercises can then be performed by workers during the day, without supervision, whenever they feel the need. Regular short Ball exercise breaks during the day improve worker performance, prevent musculoskeletal disorders and improve morale. Isn't this what every business should strive for?

It is just common sense that the human body was not designed to sit still all day. We are made to move.

Please register your interest and/or  booking by filling out the form below and returning to the Wellness Centre.

Also if this is your first class with Elizabeth we need the Pre-Exercise questionaire filled out and brought to your first class.
